  1. This is awesome if legit. Looks like instead of a full replacement you’d keep your current display and perhaps rear camera, and move them over to a new rear enclosure with a new logic board and other parts. That would cut down the cost quite a bit and there’d be less waste, while still retaining water resistance. I’m interested to see how it’ll work.

  2. Hey Apple, how about you do that – from the start – with every device, as well as making them more easily user-repairable/modular (right to repair and all that), you are the ones preaching environmental impact after all…

  3. It’s funny how they removed accessories in the name of environmentalism and yet they’re phasing out entirely funcional devices just because of a easily replaceable broken glass.

  4. It’s still replacing most of the device. The only things this new system keeps are the display and the rear cameras. Everything else (including the front camera/Face ID, logic board, battery, metal frame, etc) will still have to be replaced because of the rear glass being broken.

And there’s no mention of whether this means the actual price of the repair will go down or if it’s just going to save Apple some money.

  5. I get emails from Chinese suppliers about lasers for removing the glass from time to time. Never bothered to check them out so i don’t know how well they work but i guess the technology would have existed already
